What a crazy month February has been! The weather alone here has been unusual for this time of year. Usually, the temperature gets up to the sixties during the days this time of the year, but the last few weeks have seen highs in the fifties. It seems a bit silly to complain about the cold. After all, this time last year I was Moscow, Russia. However, I feel less inclined to wear multiple layers and thick winter coats here in California.
Aside from the cold, February has been a busy month for me. I’ve started a side job to help raise the funds necessary to help market my books. It is difficult to spend so much time away from my computer, and my rewrites are going a little slower than I like. But in the long run, this will help to get my series out there where the public can see them, regardless of the method I use to publish.
Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of questions from people about whether I plan to self-publish or go with a publishing company. Honestly, I’m still on the fence myself. After all, it would be nice to have the backing of a big publisher, but it is difficult to give up the artistic freedom I would have as a self-published author. So, for now, my plan is to work on getting my first book picked up by a publisher for a little while before I decide to self-publish.
I’ve come to accept that the process of publishing a book takes time. Even though I am very excited to get my first book published, I also have to accept the reality of the situation. Luckily I am a very patient, stubborn, and optimistic person.
Until next time,
Kathryn Blanche
